U.S. Iran war costs climb to $47.1 billion

newsOct 27, 202654298

The Pentagon told lawmakers that U.S. operations against Iran have cost $47.1 billion through October 16, with bombs, missiles and other munitions accounting for more than 60 percent of the total. The new figure is roughly $3.5 billion higher than the tally reported about six weeks earlier and more than 25 percent above the Defense Department’s July estimate. Pentagon briefings do not yet include a final tab for repairing damaged American bases, leaving open the possibility the total could rise if fighting continues or resumes. Reuters and other outlets reported the updated estimate to Congress; lawmakers will now face decisions about further funding as operations and munitions expenditures continue.
