Caleb Flynn, 40, a former American Idol contestant and music pastor, was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole after an Ohio jury convicted him of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, in February. The jury returned the verdict after a short deliberation and found Flynn guilty on nine counts, including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence, after prosecutors said he staged their Tipp City home to look like a break-in. Evidence at trial included police body camera footage, data from Flynn's iPhone and Apple Watch around the time of the shooting, and incriminating text messages to his former mistress, Alleigha Botner, in which he wrote that he had thought of ways to kill Ashley and that he wanted her dead. Prosecutors also played AI-generated songs they said Flynn created for Botner and called dozens of witnesses, including Botner, who read portions of their roughly 100,000 exchanged messages. Flynn sobbed as letters from his two daughters, ages 9 and 11, were read in court pleading with him to admit guilt; one daughter said she will never visit him in prison. Judge Jeannine Pratt described Flynn as an extreme risk to the public when imposing the sentence; Flynn again denied killing his wife in a brief statement and his lawyer, Patrick Mulligan, said he plans to file a notice of appeal.
