Mallory McMorrow suspends Senate campaign, Michigan primary now El-Sayed vs Haley Stevens
BREAKING: Mallory McMorrow suspends her campaign for US Senate in Michigan. It is now a two person race between Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens. El Sayed is funded by people, Working Families, & labor unions. Stevens is a corporate funded pro AIPAC pro Schumer puppet. Vote Abdul. Let’s go!✊🏽
Dr. El Sayed is an Obama admin alum and since then has worked tirelessly for the health of people in Michigan and for M4A. He'll be great in the Senate.
I like my puppets of the non Shumer variety. Go Dr. Go!
No more AIPAC hostages! A definitive NO to their control of America!
I wouldn't vote for anyone Chuckles is promoting.
I love this guy. thanks for the reminder to toss some cash his way.
Haley " I dream of Israel first". Stevens. bought and paid for by AIPAC. Vs. Abdul El-Sayed I want money out of politics and everyone to have health care and the same rights.
VOTE ABDUL!! AIPAC funded Democrats are bought and do the bidding of Israel over what is best for Americans. Schumer lost his way long ago, is complicit in the Genocide of Gaza and is no longer fighting for the American people. Schumer is fighting to keep his AIPAC funds coming in.
This is how primaries are supposed to work. McMorrow's people are being reached out to by El-Sayed's people, in a unifying gesture for the good of the party and country.
I am a huge Mallory McMorrow fan - and her decision to suspend her campaign is a testament to her character and commitment to the public interest. Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan! www.nytimes.com/2026/07/05/u...
100% all in for Abdul! The dem incumbent that Schumer wants-is kinda weird-I keep seeing her in ads & the ads are just weird. Plus, the more progressive we make the party the more to the left they'll shift-instead of moving to the right more & more & acting like GOP Lite.
I would've loved to see McMorrow win, but yep if she came to believe she couldn't win, great to see her be a team player.
She needs to run for a different position is all. shes a fantastic candidate and needs to be in a position to make real changes.
I too supported Mallory and also believe it is the right decision. Trump & company love nothing more than division and I hope her reason is for the betterment of Michigan and this Country. Fighting among your "own" is the most destructive action.
I am a huge fan of Mallory McMorrow but I’m a bigger fan of getting foreign interests and corporate dollars out of our government. I truly hope she will endorse. She is a fantastic candidate for a future race.
When there was a clear winner coming up through the primaries it used to be that others would drop out and endorse so that the party could coalesce. We've lost that. I hope she endorses.
im just hoping her votes transfer more to el-sayed do we have any polling indication
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed better fucking win the Senate race then. I saw a bumpy interview with him on CNN a couple days ago.
100% co-sign @leahlitman.bsky.social 🧵 I’ve know Mallory McMorrow as a state legislator, through my day job & have been consistently impressed. One of the biggest weakness of many who run or serve as elected officials is they can’t see their way to make strategic & humble decisions to step away.
It is insanely frustrating that Abdul El-Sayed got asked about Hasan Piker during every media appearance but Mallory McMorrow was never asked "Doesn't hiring a woman who spent years trying to silence Andrew Cuomo's victims contradict the notion that you care about women?"
She flat out said that both Israel and Palestine should both have Iron Domes. Hilariously unserious person.
All Muslims are responsible for all other Muslims don't you know 🙄
Mallory just dropped out of the race. So atleast she’s not in the way anymore.
I can’t qwhite put my finger on what would cause such a difference in how they’re treated.
She’s trying to elect him now so ixnay on the adeshay.
Yeah, but he also got to dunk on Olivia Reingold and have it shown repeatedly on naitonal cable news. Would you really have denied us that schadenfreude in these trying times?
Mallory McMorrow is out. SENATE standing: We have a lot of work to do. Republicans have billionaire donors and corporate money flooding their campaigns. Dems are going to have to do it the old-fashioned way: better messaging, better organizing, and earning every damn vote. 👀
Actually instead of depressing you have a woman who saw her internal & external polling as well as donations and chose to drop out of a primary she wasn’t going to win. That’s courage, that’s integrity & I applaud her . Now time to volunteer for your remaining primary choice
Man, that’s too bad. I liked her.
There's a televised debate in MI tomorrow evening. Abdul will mop the floor with Stevens. She's horrible in a debate, just talking in circles and using a whole lot of words to say nothing.
"Better messaging." Basically we're cooked if we allow moderate Democrats to keep steering the ship.
Oh no, she would be so good!
Welp, had they all been charged with seditious conspiracy back in 2021, LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN, we wouldn’t have to deal with this fascist nonsense. Looking at you DNC.
Notable — Haley Stevens makes no outreach to Mallory McMorrow supporters, while Abdul El-Sayed explicitly welcomes them to his movement:
Such a bizarre parsing of this statement. Stevens said the normal gracious things you do when a candidate drops out. You could be a journalist and less of an agitprop practitioner once in a while.
Abdul El-Sayed has more charisma, talent, and work ethic than the stodgy Stevens. Hopefully, McMorrow skates to where the puck is going and endorses El-Sayed.
Here's Haley Stevens statement about McMorrow's withdrawal. Seems pretty gracious to me. - Anecdotally, the El-Sayed supporters are the same bullying asshole trolls they've always been. Dancing on the grave of McMorrow's campaign, and directing bend-the-knee snark at her supporters.
She can be the Brad Lander to Sayed's Mamdani. Maybe something will come up where Sayed can help her in a different campaign down the line.
I saw a post from Steven about McMorrow and it was very kind and supportive and definitely outreach.
This is what I can't stand from us Democrats. Stop with the infighting. Whoever wins wins. Seriously, If we keep doing the infighting we won't win midterms. If Stevens wins then I'll vote for Stevens in the general elecfion. If Sayeed wins I'll vote for Sayeed. This is what every Democrat should do.
I mean Stevens’ statement is pretty gracious and clearly trying to reach out to McMorrow supporters even if she doesn’t use those exact words. We don’t have to do this kind of parsing.
“Notable—Haley Stevens shows respect towards the pain & disappointment which Mallory McMorrow supporters must be feeling today, giving them time to process & heal, while El Sayed immediately pounces on them.” #FIFY
FWIW, even without this I would have predicted that a large chunk of Mallory voters would shift to Abdul once she dropped out.
“To his movement” I thought it was a campaign…
Pretty bad faith reading, but you do you

El-Sayed has the juice. Steven's statement is the generic thing we expect after a primary competitor drops. Its fine, non-offensive, doesn't attack anyone or take shots. But El-Sayed's is specific and that reads better to me. It explicitly talks the emotions that her supporters have.

Then, let’s elect Jocelyn Benson as our next Governor. Let’s flip the State House, and expand our majority in the State Senate. Let’s elect Democrats up and down the ticket and show the rest of this country what it means to fight like Michigan.
Ten years ago, I started this work heartbroken, typing five words into a search bar. And I learned the only thing that has ever really changed this country: ordinary people who love something enough to fight for it.
I’m so sorry you’ve dropped out. You had my vote in the primary. I’ll have to do some thinking before August 4, but, whatever the outcome of that primary, I will support the candidate against Mike Rogers.
Hoping to hear more from you in the future. We’re not going back 💙💪
who got to you? something stinks.
Be prepared to see a bunch of establishment Dems who hadn't endorsed anyone in this race rush to endorse Stevens now. (Abdul El-Sayed is the obvious choice, but the establishment hates him)
looking forward to Cory Booker, who could not endorse in the nyc mayor's race because apparently nyc politics is not important to his state, to be actively campaigning throughout every part of the state
We need a new establishment.
Do you think this affects Abdul’s chances? I feel like some deal was made to McMorrow to get her in line with Stevens because establishment is scared of Abdul. I’m cynical but it seems kinda not too far off base.
Is there anyone who is actually popular with voters who will endorse Stevens, though? Obama, maybe?
she and stevens are two of the biggest charisma black holes running (or formally running) in the country right now. i’m gonna miss them
!! Mallory McMorrow drops out of the Michigan Senate primary, leaving a one-on-one contest between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens. This dramatically changes the dynamic of the race. A must-win seat for Democrats this fall.
If El-Sayed wins the primary and the general, it destroys the narrative that left candidates cannot win in general elections. He has been a far better campaigner than McMorrow.
a choice between. " I dream of Israel" & owned by AIPAC & a corporate centerist Dem vs. I work for the people and want health care for all. not really a choice. Abdul El-Sayed for Senate!
As the quarter just closed, I wonder how McMorrow's fund-raising compared to El-Sayed and Stevens and if it might have precipitated the decision as mush as polling.
Mike Rogers lost his 2024 Senate race to Elissa Slotkin by less than 20,000 votes. Chose carefully, Michigan Democratic Party primary voters. Choose very carefully…
Perhaps he can offset Fetterman's obsession with supporting Israel. It's time to get some people that will call out Israel for their genocide. Even though Hamas killed 1400 Israelis that doesn't give Israel an excuse to kill 60,000 Palestinians. If nothing else they should have quit at 1400.
📣 I've been clear that I was remaining neutral between U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and State Sen. Mallory McMorrow as I consider both to be friends and I think either would make a great U.S. Senator. With Sen. McMorrow suspending her campaign today, I'm formally endorsing @haleyformi.bsky.social. 1/
With that in mind, I have updated my U.S. Senate page to include Rep. Stevens. HOWEVER, as I've also stated repeatedly before, I will clarify that If Abdul El Sayed does win the Democratic nomination next month, I'll raise money for him for the general election. secure.actblue.com/donate/senat...
I like McMorrow, but I think this is a smart move.
Stevens picked me a big endorsement: bsky.app/profile/pier...
Zoom out to see the big picture. Eye on the prize.
Picking the same old same old, gets you the same old results. I have no earthly idea why we continue to make the same mistakes over and over. We lost to Trump twice! One would think we would figure it out.
Hooray! I just donated to Haley Stevens! Will do so regularly going forward. 👍
📌Mallory McMorrow: Endorse Abdul El-Sayed now please, and let's button up Michigan for Democrats. -Thanks
Although watching El-Sayed demolish the laughably, incomprehensibly idiotic Haley Stevens in their debate will be entertaining.
That woman is a class act. Been aware of her rise in politics for awhile. Still, I like El Sayed. A good communicator. That's 90% of the job. If I were a Michiganer, I'd vote for him.
Michigan Democrat Mallory McMorrow suspended her campaign for the U.S. Senate on Sunday, transforming her party’s high-stakes nomination contest just a month before the primary.
I really sorry that did not work out. She is a fighting Democrat and a real firecracker.
I mean... if I lived there, I would vote for Abdul. But, I really, really like McMorrow and hope to see her run again soon. She would be a great legislator!
Mallory McMorrow you Rock!! Will catch you next election you will be so ready!!!
Too bad it didn’t work out. Fortunately for her, and us, she has a bright future.
“The American Israel Public Affairs Committee has poured millions into ads supporting Stevens, leaving both McMorrow and El-Sayed struggling to keep pace.” The choice is clear
Lis Smith you did it again
Was tied for lead in polling as recently as April. Masterful work by Lis Smith and Searchlight and Carville and whomever else was advising.
Super fucked up on her part, people have already started voting. I saw somewhere there's a way to change your vote if you've already cast it, though, so hopefully those that did can do that.
can i say something without everyone getting mad?
