No Kings slogan resurfaces at July 4 rallies

politicsJul 5, 202615243

The pro-democracy slogan No Kings reappeared widely on July 4th in posts and local demonstrations, with activists using the phrase on signs, in art, and in chants. In Chicago’s Humboldt Park elected officials including Alderman Jessie Fuentes and Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez joined rallies that paired No Kings messaging with calls for Puerto Rican sovereignty alongside Puerto Rican activist Juan Dalmau. Organizers and participants contrasted the No Kings tradition with the current administration, directly targeting former president Donald Trump in slogans and profanity-laced chants. In Washington, posts described far-right Patriot Front marchers on the Capitol while large progressive No Kings coalitions reportedly blocked intersecting streets in counterprotests. Creators marked the day with cultural expressions from photos of the U.S. flag to No Kings-themed food posts and artwork, tying the slogan to the 250th anniversary rhetoric about America’s founding. The reappearance of No Kings on Independence Day translated into visible local events and coordinated messaging that brought elected officials, artists, and multiple protest groups into the same July 4th actions.

Still though. 250 years of America. No kings. Democracy. Many problems but many very great things. And America is NOT that guy. Give me a few things you love about America, whether you live here or not. For me: - The popular music of the last 100 years - R.E.M. - Flannery O’Connor - Basketball
