Stephen Colbert tapes final Late Show episode

tvMay 22, 202611213,981

Stephen Colbert signed off from The Late Show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre, closing his 11-year run with a farewell monologue. He thanked his audience for a "reciprocal emotional relationship" and closed the program with a star-studded finale that included Ryan Reynolds, Paul Rudd and Sir Paul McCartney. Colbert capped the night with music and a few pointed jokes, a sendoff that signals a major transition for CBS's late-night lineup and the wider late-night landscape.

Good bye CBS! Hello Jimmy Kimmel🙋‍♀️

Kov Kid from Koventry80

I have cancelled my Paramount subscription even though I live in Australia and can't even watch CBS.

Wendy 🦋🇺🇦🇬🇱☮️61

It was a great way to end the show. Having Paul McCartney as his last guest was perfect, and even though it was a little sad, he clearly indicated he was not done.

BobbiefromIL56

support.paramountplus.com/s/article/PI... “How do I cancel my subscription? We are sorry to see you go! For cancellation, please use the steps for the device or platform that you used to sign up Paramount+.”

The Opinionated Retiree and Nasty Part Owner of Canada 🇨🇦50

I just finished watching the show. I changed the channel & won't be watching CBS for my late night viewing now. Having said that, it's a shame Byron Allen has to suffer the consequences of being put a timeslot that belonged to someone else who was cancelled because a President can't take a joke.

MadGreek 🧿49

Yeah. You now lost me. No reason to watch this network now.

JJ44

Esp the last song youtu.be/rblYSKz_VnI?...

CHRIS MONTROSE39

I will watch it tomorrow and I will cry and I will hate trump forever

ldhy.bsky.social22

Thank you Stephen for keeping hope alive, extending grace and standing on faith. See you soon.

pauly2coffees21

Kinda raises the question of why such a successful series was cancelled, doesn’t it, Forbes?

Emily15

dyk: CBS started out as 15 radio stations called the United Independent Broadcasters in 1927. Bari Weiss killed CBS just one year short of CBS' hundredth birthday.

12th Dimension15

Colbert is someone are country can be proud of. Trump is not.

javiercenizo.bsky.social14

Definitely and most likely, I am not going to be watching any CBS shows on the future. Good riddance CBS.

Marly Marie13

This is just complete bullshit that we are going to lose this gem of a human, and I’m so happy he’s getting his dream of writing a new LOTR movie.

julzvc.bsky.social12

His last show made me cry, I will miss him making light of terrible stressful things. He would make me laugh.

Step 🐸12

Stephen lost his role but he didn’t leave his legacy. He’ll be back 🫡

Synchronizing11

Bruce Springsteen explains succinctly in his opener. Stephen because you're the first guy in America who's lost his show because we got a president who can't take a joke … these … people who got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about. youtu.be/rMrNO6VjqiA?...

Ileana D Vasquez11

A very sad day in America!

Dave Niedrich10

Just cancelled Paramount +. They asked the reason. “Stephen Colbert was a victim of political corruption in which Paramount was complicit. Cancellation of your service is a direct result of your participation in the suppression of free speech. What a shame!”

bobthefrog.bsky.social9

I did like that he never mentioned trump.

alwayswailing.bsky.social8

cbs SOLD STEPHEN COLBERT OUT. Leaves me curious about something. Y r news media magnates bowing to the ill will of a spoiled rich kid who can lie and call people names while others lose for BEING HONEST? BEST OF LUCK TO U STEPHEN AND MAY YOUR NEXT PROJECT BE AMAZING!

friendlysociopath.bsky.social8

IIRC Colbert's tapped to do a LOTR movie or tv show next so I think he's putting his newfound boredom to good use.

Peters J Vecrumba8

CBS in blatant naked servile kowtowing to authoritarianism. Cronkite and Murrow are turning in their graves like whirling dervishes.

ArmyVeteran8

Thanks Stephen Colbert, goodbye CBS.

tedr5292.bsky.social8

This one saddens me. I have an feeling of emptiness today I know Stephen’s not gone and look forward to his new ventures. CBS is dead.

mertzlovr.bsky.social7

So sad that the producers of the show had to bend a knee to kiss trumps ass and bow down to there king to keep him happy!! Well so much for free speech i guess!! Stephen you will return bigger better and someime in the near future not afraid to speak your mind once again!!!

Susan Stone7

Leave a comment with CBS, then unsubscribe from/don't watch Paramount+ and all affiliate, if you havent already. Pick any random show on the list if they'e already deleted The Late Show. www.cbs.com/showfeedback/

Reggie Stein7

I will continue boycotting CBS and Paramount.

Daniel7

Just canceled my paramount plus. Had it for star trek also. Bye forever.

pjp11.bsky.social7

Boycott CBS and their advertisers

Earl7

Shouldn’t a leader of a country be able to take a joke? Should a president be able to abuse his power and get late night comedians cancelled?

Diamond Life6

Republicans destroy everything good in the world. I despise every single one of them.

Joseph TW6

It's like losing a friend.

Space Enthusiast6

I hope CBS goes bankrupt within the year.

miadolceuna.bsky.social6

CBS is dead to me. And I look forward to Colbert’s next gig!

🍀McMomma🍀5

What a shame that great TV has to be canceled but Fox and Friends can still exist.

Hard Left - No Labels5

CBS has committed themselves to going bankrupt

katydidwm.bsky.social5

Goodbye Paramount + subscription! I got an error message this morning when I tried to submit a comment in the feedback section related to cancellation. BUT YOU KNOW WHY EVEN IF YOU WON’T LET US SAY IT.

jefferythall.bsky.social5

A very talented, patriotic American, He will not disappear, I Look forward to his next contribution.

Veronica P5

Very important for people who listen ànd watch news to have a safety valve towards the end of the week. Where the news is made funny by clever people.

Shiela Norton5

CBS is dead to me now.

walt-roux5

The First Amendment was assassinated and Republicans cheered

USA_Patriot_764

Yeah, one good cancellation deserves another…. ¡Hasta no vista Paramount! Release the Epstein-Maxwell-Trump Pedo Files NOT the Epstein-Maxwell-Trump Pedo Philes.

Darren Lee Richardson4

Thank you, Stephen Colbert... we await your next chapter. 🥲

The Wizard Of Awe4

It was a great show! He will be missed.

Marsh Views4

Trump is destroying America. Shame on anyone who voted for him.

fminfl.bsky.social4

And the last time anyone needs to watch CBS ...

eddiefanuzoo.bsky.social4

Boycott @CBS and drop Paramount

Barry Hochberg4

Looking forward to Colbert's next project. I'm sure he'll be back to be a continued thorn in DJT's side. And next time, it will most likely be in a place the FCC has no control of!

Builder of Spine one call at a time!!4

FUCK Paramount Skydance Corporation and owners THE Ellison Trump ball lickers!!

FoulAtreides 🐭4

HELLO JIMMY HELLO HELLO, as we say goodbye we say HELLO

I hope it brings an end to CBS

123fdjt.bsky.social4

I love Steven Colbert and all he's done. I have survived the political times because of him. I hate Trump and even more for this!

ewdaisyrose.bsky.social4

F*ck CBS. Bunch of no good cowards.

Franca (Ph.D.) 🇨🇦3

No more CBS for me. I was only watching Colbert anyway.

Leslie of the North3

No, it was to feel the news AT you. Geez...

dbc105.bsky.social3

A real shame Trump is such a Sh!t that we can't have Stephen on Late Night. I just keep in mind that I don't see any way Trump makes it past St Peter.

Mike Farmer3

He will find a place in new media and will do just fine and will probably have more freedom to speak his mind

dibon5.bsky.social3

Please help us feel it again with Stephen Colbert. Say hello again.

KeepItReal3

Larry Ellison's catch-and-kill for Donald Trump.

The Late Show now is truly the late show.

Alfred E. Human3

I know, I personally just turned it off for the last time. As much as I love football, fuck CBS, fuck the Ellisons and fuck every one of this pedofelon dicktaster’s enablers, every last one of them, forever. #ResistFacism #ReleaseTheEpsteinFiles #8647 #PrisonForPrdophiles #EatThrRich #FuckDJT&GOP!!

Zigzaggreen🇨🇦2

Are the owners of Forbes still helping to lie to the people and protecting pedophiles or are they the pedophiles too.

StopFascism2

Fuck trump is hate him more every second. 86 47 he needs to go. Resist

Michael Hathaway2

I am SO looking forward to what Stephen does next. He is NOT going away.

Grateful-1.bsky.social2

The response is a simple one‼️...F*CK CBS; F*CK DUMP & F*CK THE ELLISONS ‼️...🚫🚫🚫🚫 -- CBS NO LONGER EXISTS‼️

VanillaRage2

By attacking education, then media, art, and now satire, Trump isn’t just silencing critics—he’s reshaping reality itself. A society that doesn’t think critically, doesn’t trust information, doesn’t create freely, and doesn’t laugh at power is a society ripe for authoritarian rule.

singerindy.bsky.social2

Stupid, idiotic business move by #CBS and #Paramount

Lisa2

He’ll be missed. My guess is that his next venture will be epic!!!

anotherjustme.bsky.social2

NEVER EVER ANYTHING C B S AGAIN!!!!

cmenden.bsky.social2

I am gonna miss the show and Stephen Colbert's intelligent interviews. 💔

Linda M2

rump can't take a joke, pathetic

Cameron Kuss2

I am boycotting CBS along with the likes of Starbucks, Trader Joe's etc....

dee717.bsky.social2

I hope Colbert sues Paramount for all of the Ellison family’s billions $$ for infringing on his 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech. This is America, not Russia. It’s outrageous to lose one’s job for a joke that essentially is true: bribery to Trump by Ellison. @colbertlateshow.bsky.social

Greg Save Democracy2

FUCK CBS. I’ll never watch them again

Eryn Wyld2

I will never watch Christo-Fascist Broadcasting System again.

Super Dave2

@forbes.com you tabloid journalist posers can't say what really happened. donny the pedo clown is stomping on 1st amendment rights. And you're going along with it.

@rincewind.run

as stephen colbert signs off for the last time let's all remember the one time the WHCD was worth a damn truly one of the all time greats

Micah411

"The greatest thing about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands. He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change; this man's beliefs never will." god damn, what a performance

Mark Shatraw41

It is, for my money, one of the great works of satire. Modest Proposal-tier.

Nekrởtzar34

I was so happy when Colbert won a Pulitzer for this speech. Now you might say, I looked it up, and he never won a Pulitzer. That’s because you looked it up in a book. Next time, look it up in your gut.

Cheryl McNeilly32

You have to be so incredibly intelligent to pull off this level of satire. He's so good at what he does. He left Northwestern the year before I was a freshman and everybody in performance arts was still talking about him. Apparently he was already writing great material.

Ozma18

Remember the ABSOLUTE FURY? I mean people lost their minds!

leemarvinoswald.bsky.social17

"Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!"

String Sound13

"You know? Fiction!" Still amazing.

Pretty Ugly13

Agreed with the latter, but arguably shares a spot at the top with Michelle Wolf. youtu.be/DDbx1uArVOM?...

Cloud's Strife11

It's kind of amazing how, 20 years later, the WHCA has been working tirelessly to prevent a comedian from ever making a good joke at their expense, ever since Stephen Colbert performed at the Correspondents Dinner.

Tom Forsyth10

People lost their minds when they let a black man in the White House, but it was because this guy had rattled their cages so thoroughly first. Thanks, Colbert.

Mrs. Detective Pikajew, Esq.7

Still remember watching it in high school

s-isabelle.bsky.social5

I'm halfway through and the bit on the polls (GW at 32%) and the glass not being half empty but 2/3 empty is a great set up for the line —even though there's liquid in the glass, don't drink it b/c "the last 1/3 always has a lot of backwash." A great analogy for those MAGA still supporting Trump!

2005/2006 was a magical time to be an activist democrat

heyincendiary3

Every time I watch this I admire it all over again. Your nerves screaming like a tornado siren for a full half-hour. Dude doesn't blink.
