McLaren last-lap horror, Norris takes out Piastri in Singapore sprint

sportsOct 10, 20263368

Lando Norris collided with teammate Oscar Piastri on the final lap of the Singapore sprint at Marina Bay, taking Piastri out and costing McLaren eight points in the standings. The sprint had been held in wet conditions after a torrential downpour delayed the race by 30 minutes, and the McLarens ran fourth and fifth from early on. Both drivers closed on Charles Leclerc late, but Norris attempted an overtake at Turn 5, ran out of space at the apex and hit Piastri, who could not finish. Norris recovered after both McLarens spun to cross the line eighth, while Piastri walked back to the paddock. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen won the wet sprint, his first win at the venue, amid the chaotic conditions. Norris apologised over the radio, saying he thought he was fully alongside and had run out of space at the apex.
