Golden State Valkyries reach WNBA Finals after OT sweep of Aces

sportsOct 10, 202631952

The Golden State Valkyries beat the Las Vegas Aces 85-77 in overtime in Game 3 to complete a 3-0 semifinal sweep and reach the WNBA Finals in just their second season. Golden State erased an 11-point second-half deficit and forced overtime, where Tiffany Hayes hit key baskets and finished with 11 points while Kayla Stokes had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Kayla Thornton led the team with 18 points. Gabby Williams added 16 points, including late free throws, and nearly gave the Aces a chance with a long possession that set up Las Vegas’s final shot with 3.9 seconds left. Coach Natalie Nakase credited the team’s depth and fight, saying the overtime showed “strength in numbers,” while Veronica Burton and teammates celebrated the franchise milestone. The Valkyries will open the best-of-seven WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream at Chase Center on October 17.

As my Yorkshire-born husband says, "EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! That were grand!"

Tammie Visintainer2

I love them so much. Stokes with the boards/big D swats, Hayes with the best scrappy energy, Williams with the zen, Burton with the power drives etc etc. They love each other and you can see it when they play!! #GSV

Salute to the Golden State Valkyries. Believed in their formula on both ends of the floor. Disruptive defense, continued attack offensively, team effort to do the little things.

I don't believe it. The Golden State Valkyries have swept the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, 3-0 after winning Game 3 by a final score of 87-77 in OT. The Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream will compete for the #WNBA Championship!

Natalie Nakase wasn’t joking when she said she’s trying to win a championship within 5 years during her initial head coach interview before last season. She may very well do so in 2. The team owner may get what he wants. #WNBA #WNBAFinals #Valkyries

Just so we’re clear, #Aces might have lost but that doesn’t take away from their hard fought season to get here, nor does it take away from everything A’ja Wilson has accomplished this season to become a 5x MVP. Stats don’t lie. Congrats to the #Valkyries #WNBA
