Eagles release veteran quarterback Andy Dalton

sportsOct 9, 202631430

The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton ahead of their Week 5 game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dalton, 38, began the season as the team’s backup after competing all summer but lost that role and was demoted in favor of Tanner McKee; the team will now carry McKee and Cole Payton behind starter Jalen Hurts. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Dalton could return to the Eagles’ practice squad. The Eagles needed roster spots with injuries piling up and signed running back Carson Steele and center Jake Majors to the active roster, making four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster untenable. Dalton took a few snaps in Chicago when Hurts was evaluated for a concussion and his lone pass for the Eagles was an interception at the goal line in the 27-7 Week 3 loss. Head coach Nick Sirianni had publicly said he still had faith in Dalton while also praising McKee and Payton as they developed in the quarterback room. Dalton entered the season with 169 career starts but failed to distinguish himself in training camp or preseason competition for the backup job.

Signing Andy Dalton as your Savvy Veteran Backup, having him play exactly one time, throw a backbreaking red zone interception on his only pass, and then releasing him is incredibly funny

Traded for him! Kept four QBs on the 53! Had multiple guys poached at cut down day and off the practice squad! All for ANDY DALTON to throw one pass (which was intercepted on 3rd and goal on Monday Night Football).

ESPN and NFL Network are reporting that the Eagles have released Andy Dalton. That whole thing was a disaster.

I started reading that and was immediately hoping it ended with “firing Stephen A Smith.”This will have to do.

I know everyone loves Howie SZN and all that but his moves the last 2 years have been uh, concerning.

Josh1

you'll never convince me that the INT he floated in his last game wasn't done on purpose as a middle finger to Howie...

Lol. No free trip to London for you. Wonder if they did it at the airport.

I bet it's been in the works since he tossed that endzone interception.

Never quite understood the Andy Dalton Philly fit, and apparently neither did they. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t have anything against Andy Dalton as a person but man, bringing him in and having him compete w/Tanner giving him the win, keeping 4 QBs and then playing him and him throw one pass one pick and then demoting him and then cutting him is an absurd situation this coaching staff put us through

#Panthers GM Dan Morgan traded Adam Thielen and Andy Dalton over the past two offseasons. Those two players played a total of 12 regular-season games for the teams that traded for them.

[Garafolo] This doesn’t close the door on Andy Dalton’s tenure with the Eagles. They have a lot of injuries and needed his spot. Could still return, even via a practice-squad spot, a source informed says. twitter.com/MikeGarafolo...

Howie's made some good moves and some bad moves, certainly more of the former, but even most of the bad moves you could at least see the rationale behind them. Trading for Andy Dalton and wedging him into a bizarre backup QB competition was nonsensical on day one, a total unforced error.

As for not "forming a parasocial bond," I don't have a parasocial bond with like... inanimate objects. Or cartoon characters. Or any number of real, actual human beings who do real, actual human things I care about. For example. Just heard the Eagles released Andy Dalton. Fuck that guy.
