Minecraft announces new dimension The Sift, arriving in 2027

gamingSep 26, 202622365

Minecraft's reveal at Minecraft Live announced a new dimension called The Sift, shown to debut in Minecraft Dungeons 2 later this month and arriving in the base game in 2027. Posts center on two concrete hooks: Ice Caves within the update, highlighted for falling icicles and calcite and a new Frozen Zombie, and the Sift itself with tiny bunny creatures, mysterious portals tucked in ancient underground ruins, and hints it will supply more skulk. Reactions mix giddy excitement and relief that developers kept the Sift a secret codename with some users questioning what a fourth dimension adds beyond existing dimensions.

New Sift Dimension is wild! Very excited to see what it will bring to Minecraft next year. Also very glad the Winter Drop later this year will bring a bit more dynamism to the underground!

The new dimension announced today for Java and Bedrock editions at Minecraft Live 2026 as seen in Minecraft Dungeons II. Featuring the ancient city portal leading to a new dimension of color and mystique.

I have no idea who this little goober is, but I already love him. (Also, don't tell me about him if you do know; I want to be surprised 😁)

Taliesin821

you can catch a glimpse of some possible ideas that might be added via Mieloni's Sift Mod.

I am so hyped that we managed to contain news of a new dimension in both games successfully for so long. It still feels crazy to be able to say “Sift” and not the codename we drilled into people. Much of the extended Dungeons team didn’t even know it was a codename, it was so secret. 🤫

If you want to get a feel for one game’s vision of the new dimension, I have great news for you: Minecraft Dungeons II is out on Tuesday! 🎉 (And the blub is a Deluxe Edition pet!)

kmb6008

It coming to vanilla must've been super hard to keep secret, especially after announcing it for Dungeons II only at first 😂

Spending half of my life dedicated to making cool new content for a new Minecraft dimension has given me such an appreciation for how cool and original The Sift is. Really excited for Dungeons II and to see how The Sift comes together in Vanilla! It feels like The Aether's cousin 😄🩵

Secrets are secrets Marc, and this has been a very GOOD SURPRISE! Thank you.

What was the codename for the sift? 😙

Regarding the Winter Drop, I like what we've seen so far. More Calcite is very welcome! But it's gonna need a bit more. Luckily we generally don't see the entire drop at LIVE, and we have some months before release still! #Minecraft #MinecraftLIVE #MinecraftUpdate

Very cool! But, I can't wait to see what else they add. They are rather barren.

Sift aside I'm also very excited for yet another Cave Biome! ❄️ The biomes added in Caves & Cliffs were all fantastic, but they were still a little lacking. Now with 2 others, the underground will be feeling much more sufficiently varied, and Ice Caves were rather needed!

saw the sift reveal and im ngl i really dont know how to feel about it im just sorta sitting here and asking myself- what does it add to minecraft to have a 4th dimension when they already dont know what to do with a 3rd...? ideally, a dimension should have reasons to go to it frequently, but-

they cant even fulfill that with the end. The nether is an excellent example of a dimension with purpose, having practical mechanics like the travel distance modifier and dimension-exclusive mechanics like piglins and unique spawning scenarios only for it, but in the case of the end, all of its-
