Premier League clubs seek legal advice after Manchester City guilty verdict
Since Manchester City’s owners are guilty of systematic cheating, surely the punishments (relegation, huge fines, transfer bans) should also including stripping them of their right to run a football club?
as with Juve and Rangers if they're to be relegated, send them down to League 2 or whatever the Northern non-league is called nowadays. don't pollute the Championship with their ways. Wrexham have proven that sleeping giants can rise phoenix-like with oodles of dough.
Exactly this. I know football is a big money sport, however, if Spain can manage to compete without resorting to the wealth of charlatans, crooks and despotic regimes, then surely we can too? In fact, if football in this country was made more accessible, it might solve a few problems.
The fair play rules did work, it effectively handcuffed Saudi Arabia from spending at Newcastle & now Coty found guilty. Long & protracted but the right result.
And now Liverpool FC has had Bezos forced upon them. How can it ever end well.
My, you haters are ambitious.
The owners never were or ever will be “fit and proper”… and this whole episode that has been allowed to go on for years, proves it.
Following the news that Manchester City FC has been found guilty of 114 breaches of the PL's rules and regulations, @josimarfootball.bsky.social has lifted the paywall on articles of ours focusing on MCFC and its commercial partners since 2018. Links follow in this thread.
July 2022 -Manchester City’s new training kit sponsor, cryptocurrency exchange OKX, is under investigation in Canada for “violating securities law” and “failing to comply with the registration and prospectus requirements under Ontario securities law”
As an Arsenal fan it‘s all such an anti-climax and feels no worse than what Chelsea did. Letting them off with a slap on the wrists set the tone of what I expect next.
Essential reading on all the many other questionable things City have done under this ownership group.
As usual Philippe and the Josimar team deliver. Incredible stuff
Eye-opening thread on a handful of Man City's commercial dealings in recent years. The club have been steeped in nefarious collaborations for nearly as long as the PSR/FFP breaches. It is a criminal enterprise bent on sportswashing other crimes.
I’d add a 115th charge to the list tbqh
Exclusive: successful legal actions over City case could be worth over £200m to clubs who make claims - only four preserved "right to sue" under Section W Was initially Arsenal, who are understood to have been followed by Spurs, Man United and Liverpool www.independent.co.uk/sport/footba...
£200m doesn't seem like a lot. Only gets you an Anderson and some of an Enzo?
quick question, miguel - if city are to be relegated anyway, and there is to be a change of ownership - both which seems quite likely now - what would they have to lose from going into administration if faced with huge potential claims of this nature?
Seems like a football club could just, like, you know... follow the rules n' shit..? Save themselves a lot of bother...?
What a surprise it was those clubs
"Of course. We can do what we want.” That's the line, in the hacked emails published by Der Spiegel in 2018, that sums up the sense of entitlement that fuelled Manchester City's cheating under this ownership. Column for @theathleticfc.bsky.social #MCFC www.nytimes.com/athletic/763...
the richer people become the less often those around them tell them they're ever wrong. quite a few things al mubarak has said have been proven to be arrogant. he's probably too important a figure to the uae to feel any real personal consequences, but he has to be finished in english football.
Above all sport must be fair. It must be honest. It must be true. Otherwise, it is merely an entertainment with no more veracity than WWE or Gladiators. This is a rubicon moment for the Premier League. The essential validity of football is existential to it. city must fall and fall far.
With Manchester City the real question for me is what Abu Dhabi got in return for their ownership. www.theguardian.com/football/202... One day we will look at Newcastle and PSG the same way.
Look up sports washing. It's been discussed since they were linked with buying the club. In fact from the Chelsea Abramovitch era.
UAE/Abu Dhabi's corrupt "Beyond Borders" airline Etihad popping up again..this time in Manchester Anyway aside from this, "Boycott the UAE" bc ~well they're bankrolling AI/tech fascism/eugenic Silicon Valley VCs~from an endless supply sovereign wealth + committing genocide in Sudan (RSF) ...
We will always have these articles in the record, an archive of historical moral flexibility and/or naïveté. It was bad enough to accept (much less excuse and admire) a sportswashing venture. Too many bought in. It wasn’t all that difficult to speculate on the deceit needed to build such a team.
I wonder if we will get mea culpas? Probably not. I bet we get more confessionals like “how could we have known?” or “assuming the cheating was real would be too cynical and I am an optimist not a cynic” or some other self-valorizing BS about wanting to see the good in people and not the bad.
We're about to see media viewpoints being adjusted en masse after years of silence. A shockingly small percentage of them had the balls to call this out, even after the shambolic UEFA case had already exposed it.
Manchester City verdict: what happens next, will club appeal and could they be relegated?
They know what they are
So.... it turns out that Man City won all those trophies because they had more money than anyone else. Well who knew ??? 🤔
I would be very surprised if the club loses its Premiership status!!
Quite looking forward to their first game back in the PL against Liverpool at Anfield, in fact, every game they play from now will have the background chorus of 'Cheats' I'm sure.
In other words you don't know....
Clear as mud. You haven't explained what the issues are, why they're in trouble.
Clearly the just outcome is: 1. Stripping of all titles. 2. An enormous fine distributed on some fair agreed basis to impacted clubs with parameters. Maybe a points reduction too but that clearly benefits different clubs to those impacted by the transgressions. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...
Yes, of course there are infinite waves of impact but you obviously have to draw a boundary somewhere and the principles should be: Man City pay an enormous price; those most directly impacted are compensated.
They have defrauded the PL and cheated every club in the league over so many years. At the very least they must be relegated to the lowest tier like Rangers were. Man City crimes are actually much worse. All titles stripped. Remember this is only to 2018. Sure more shady shit has gone on since too
The problem no fine is enormous enough not be payable by the club’s owners so important it’s structured so the club is hit financially. Void the titles and any other cup wins and drop them down two divisions. This has to be a deterrent to other rich owners.
Also, the individuals chiefly responsible should be banned from any involvement in football for life, including ownership and any form of employment in the game.
