The Portland Fire beat the Golden State Valkyries 90-82 in overtime in Portland's season finale. The Valkyries visited Portland on Tuesday with playoff seeding at stake; Golden State rallied late to force overtime but could not keep up in the extra period, a loss the Valkyries that the team said damaged their seeding possibilities and sets up a big game for them on Thursday. Golden State returned to its usual starting five of Cecilia Zandalasini, Gabby Williams, Veronica Burton, Kayla Thornton, and Kiah Stokes and used a ten-player rotation with smallball lineups as the game progressed. Portland was without Nyadiew Puoch and Holly Winterburn, got Bridget Carleton back, and had Jordan Harrison available after originally being on the injury report. The game was sloppy early for both teams, Golden State opened strongly before Portland roared back and turned it into a back-and-forth contest; Portland led 24-10 after the first quarter and later tied the game before Golden State pushed it to overtime but fell short late.
