John Mateer's late interception sinks No. 11 Oklahoma at Michigan
All the time in the world for John Mateer, but he's a mediocrity and Michigan's cornerbacks are all studs
This looks like a matchup between two fringe top 25 teams.
He’ll be a fun spring league/CFL “Oh, that’s where he is” guy in 4 years
Just because a quarterback is exciting…it doesn’t mean he is good.
And that one in particular is the best man coverage one of the bunch and most likely to pick it. He'll do some dumb shit (see: the personal foul on the 1) but dude can cover.
Let's do some Michigan thoughts and ramblings again. I'm sure this will be less popular after Michigan defied convention and beat Oklahoma. So, we're Iowa with upside. That means that while we have a baseline of about 8-4, the pure upside is significantly higher because Bryce may improve.
BUT FIRST, the defense. Jay Hill is a sick fuck (complimentary). He had Mateer in absolute hell today. Even when there was room, the Oklahoma QB was sailing balls all day and in all honesty, he's lucky he only threw one pick. Both Sooners scoring drives were aided by stupid penalties.
OK, but to be fair, that is what I thought they were before the season with a win today moving it potentially to 9-3. But Michigan has not already beaten two of the five teams on its schedule that won ten games last season. Lots to keep improving, but more hope than last week.
Current Iowa feels like Iowa with upside, honestly. This UM team feels like a lot of those early Harbaugh teams that had a high floor because of the talent but a non-elite ceiling. In a 12-team playoff that's enough if they can steal a game from the Oregon/IU teams.
