The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up top outfield prospect Josue De Paula from Double-A, manager Dave Roberts confirmed after Wednesday's game; De Paula is replacing Shohei Ohtani, who is being placed on the injured list for lingering knee, biceps and neck injuries. De Paula is the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and is being promoted straight from Double-A, the first position player to do so during Andrew Friedman's tenure as president of baseball operations. At Double-A Tulsa this year he hit .303/.401/.547 across 124 games with 27 home runs, 104 RBIs, a .948 OPS, 31 stolen bases and an 81-to-87 walk-to-strikeout mark. The 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter originally signed as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2022 for $397,500 and rose rapidly through the Dodgers' system. The Dodgers plan to give De Paula the lion's share of starts at designated hitter, with the possibility of outfield work as he continues improving his defense under guidance from Jason Heyward in the front office. MLB Pipeline called De Paula the most advanced young hitter Los Angeles has had since Corey Seager. Because De Paula was not on the 40-man roster on September 1 he is not eligible to appear in the postseason for Los Angeles this year.
