Monty Don announced he will step down as presenter of BBC Gardeners' World at the end of the current series, ending a 23-year run that began when he joined the programme in 2003. He has presented roughly seven hundred programmes and since 2011 has hosted from his own garden, Longmeadow in Herefordshire, often accompanied by his dogs. Monty said he treasures the connection with millions of viewers worldwide and believes now is the right time for a change, adding he looks forward to continuing to work with the BBC on other projects, writing more books, and still gardening at Longmeadow. Kate Phillips, BBC Chief Content Officer, praised his calming presence, credited him with inspiring gardeners and opening up about his personal struggles and mental health, and confirmed he will present Gardeners' World until the end of the year. Sharon Fisher, BBC Studios Series Editor, Gardeners' World, called Monty's contribution extraordinary and said his departure marks the end of a remarkable chapter for the programme while celebrating what he has given to the show and its audience.
