Adam Kinzinger released a Labor Day special titled "Special Report: Trump Whiffing on Labor Day, The Midterm Map Comes Into Focus, and What It’s Really Like to Run for Office." Kinzinger argues that President Trump has launched the most sustained assault on organized labor of any modern president, citing a March executive order that removed nearly a million federal workers from collective bargaining and subsequent expansions that recently excluded NASA, NOAA, the National Weather Service, and the Patent and Trademark Office. Kinzinger notes a June order reclassifying career federal employees to permit firing without due process and quotes the American Federation of Government Employees calling it an attempt to corrupt the federal government. Kinzinger says courts have mostly sided with the administration, pointing to a Ninth Circuit ruling in February and a narrower Massachusetts judge decision in June limiting agency control over union elections. He reports roughly 400,000 federal jobs have disappeared since Trump took office and that manufacturing has lost 75,000 jobs during the same period. Despite those losses, Kinzinger highlights that union membership reached a 16 year high this past winter and warns Republicans should be worried by renewed organizing. He also previews analysis of the midterm map, notes the ongoing dispute over federal agents at polling places, and offers candidates practical advice to "remember why you’re running."
