Patriots trade Kayshon Boutte to Texans for Jaylen Reed and a 7th

The New England Patriots traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans, Tom Pelissero reported, and received safety Jaylen Reed plus a 2028 seventh-round pick. Boutte, 24, was a sixth-round pick in 2023 out of LSU and asked for a trade this spring during a contract year. Over 38 regular-season and playoff games with New England he caught 87 passes for 1,327 yards, averaged 15.3 yards per reception, and scored 10 touchdowns. The move followed the Patriots’ 2026 additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, which created a crowded receiver room that now lists Brown, Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism at the top. Jaylen Reed joins New England after limited action as a rookie; the Patriots also add a late future draft asset with the 2028 seventh. Boutte gives the Texans a perimeter field stretcher and a veteran who should compete for playing time in Houston’s receiver rotation.

Steal for Houston. This is a better WR than the one they're replacing. This feels light for NE with pick as a '28 7th. Yea, the depth at WR makes this more palatable, but one more year of Boutte feels more valuable than this.

On one hand, I could see Kayshon Boutte being a fun fantasy sleeper. On the other, I could also see Xavier Hutchinson taking more playing time away from Boutte then what would be ideal. Also, a trade for Boutte can't be the best sign for how Tank Dell is looking.

Kayshon Boutte had a 56.3% catch rate on tight-window targets in 2025, the 2nd highest rate among regular WRs. I see him as a contested-catch-winning complement to the YAC-producing Nico Collins and explosive-hunting Jaylin Noel and Tank Dell, not a replacement for either Noel or Dell.
