Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has held talks about joining a consortium led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia that has made a provisional offer of £1.35bn to buy roughly 30 percent of Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group. The bid would value the club at about £4.5bn and Bhatia is understood to have secured backing from his father-in-law, steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Bhatia transferred his QPR shares to co-owner Ruben Gnanalingam yesterday to clear the way for the prospective investment. FSG confirmed an investment consortium led by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in a strategic minority investment in Liverpool. Bezos, who Forbes values at about $257bn, would receive equity in Liverpool if a deal proceeds and has previously explored bids for NFL franchises without completing a purchase. Bezos is executive chairman of Amazon, which until the end of last year had live UK rights for 20 Premier League games each season and currently broadcasts the Champions League in several European countries and the NFL in the United States.
