Fernando Tatis Jr. hits season's longest homer, 474 ft

Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a 474-foot two-run home run off JR Ritchie in the top of the eighth, giving the San Diego Padres an 8-3 lead in Tuesday's win at Atlanta. Ritchie left a curveball over the heart of the plate on a full count and Tatis deposited it into the center-field bleachers; the ball bounced into the center-field concourse. The blast registered a 111.0 mph exit velocity and a 27 degree launch angle and became the longest home run in MLB this season, edging Drake Baldwin's 473-foot shot from June 16 by one foot. Tatis finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored; Manny Machado hit two solo homers, his 22nd of the season, and Jackson Merrill added a solo shot earlier. Braves starter Reynaldo López was charged with five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings; the Padres hit four home runs total in the 8-3 victory. San Diego improved to 50-51 and moved within two games of the final National League wild-card spot.
