Dodgers win after chaotic rundown double play caps 2-1 victory over Phillies

sportsJul 22, 202616584

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 when a chaotic bases rundown produced a game-ending double play, handing the Dodgers the win. Max Muncy supplied the only other offense with a homer that ultimately decided the game. Justin Wrobleski, fresh off the All-Star Game, made it through 6.1 innings with 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts and 89 pitches. Zack Wheeler retired the first eight batters he faced, but a two-out sequence in the third, Eliezer Alfonzo Jr. doubled, Shohei Ohtani was ruled out on review after trying to stretch the hit, and Alfonzo’s slow baserunning prevented a run, played into the tense middle innings. Both bullpens were described as flawless late, with Evan Phillips recording back-to-back strikeouts in relief. The game followed an 80-minute rain delay and drew a paid attendance of 40,077 at Citizens Bank Park.

With the walk-off run at second and the tying run at third, Scott gets Marsh to ground to Muncy, who get Crawford in a rundown for the out. Realmuto then goes back to second for some reason and gets tagged out there for a double play. Dodgers win, lmfao.

I once saw someone say that characters should never do anything "for some reason," because they would know their own motivations and act accordingly* counterpoint: jt realmuto running back to second for some fucking reason

Sorry but it’s time for @sickoscommittee.org baseball… it’s mostly just Phillies and Mets. But, by my count, that’s a good 80% of this site so you’re good.

I actually did what Realmuto did here once during baseball practice freshman year in high school. The coach got so mad at me that he made every player on the team stop scrimmaging and run sprints for a while. So then everyone got mad at me (by design) and needless to say I did not do that again

Jeff Kent and JD Drew both getting tagged out at home on the same play is still probably the dumbest TOOTBLAN I’ve seen, but now this one is pretty high up there

Phillies about to tie the game, maybe even win it with runners on 2nd and 3rd when Wet Sasquatch scrubs a line drive straight to Muncy for one of the wildest rundown/double plays you will ever see.

me: the baserunning mechanics in MLB The Show are terrible and unrealistic Phillies:
