Trea Turner hit a two-run homer and a three-run homer, driving in five runs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7 at Citizens Bank Park. The three-run shot came just inside the left-field foul pole and was the 200th home run of Turner’s career; Turner also hit the 300th double of his career in the first inning. Turner’s bat outweighed a poor night at shortstop: he committed his third error in four games and his 15th of the season, and he misplayed three other balls that were scored base hits. The Phillies smacked five home runs total in the game, and Turner’s big night capped a four-run sixth that pushed Philadelphia to an 8-3 lead. Manager Don Mattingly defended Turner, saying “Trea’s our guy” and that Turner cares about his defense, while the club is at least considering moving Turner to the outfield next season after recent struggles. Turner has hit .324 with seven homers and 19 RBIs over his last 27 games, with a .360 on-base percentage in that span. Turner called the game “a roller coaster” and said he needs to find defensive rhythm again as the season progresses.
