Trump rants about Nobel Peace Prize aboard Air Force One

Aboard Air Force One returning from a NATO summit in Turkey, President Donald Trump held a press gaggle in which he complained about being overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying "I should have won that award more than anybody." Video of the gaggle was published and drew immediate criticism, with outlets such as Raw Story reporting that critics roasted the remarks. Trump has long claimed he deserves the prize for brokering the Abraham Accords, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally nominated him this summer while Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) submitted a separate nomination. Some Republicans pushed further: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) suggested on television that First Lady Melania Trump also be considered, citing a handwritten letter she sent that sought compassion for abducted Ukrainian children and that Ukrainian leaders acknowledged. Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee have expressed skepticism of Trump, with at least three of the five members criticizing his record on democracy and international cooperation.
