Restore Britain leader calls Dunblane 'one murder' on Joe Rogan podcast

cultureJul 9, 202615485

Rupert Lowe, leader of Restore Britain and the MP for Great Yarmouth, told the Joe Rogan podcast that the UK handgun ban happened because "there was a murder in Dunblane," and when host Joe Rogan asked "One murder?" Lowe repeated that formulation. The remark prompted calls for an apology and condemnation from politicians. Conservative MSP Stephen Kerr called the comments "astonishingly insensitive and profoundly disrespectful to the victims of Dunblane," saying reducing the killing to "one murder" was inaccurate and diminishing. Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Keith Brown described Lowe as "a stain on our politics" and said his comments were "beyond despicable," noting 16 children and their teacher were shot dead and 15 more children were wounded. The massacre took place on 13 March 1996 when gunman Thomas Hamilton entered Dunblane primary school; the subsequent Snowdrop campaign led to a ban on private handgun ownership in the UK. Lowe, who founded Restore Britain after his suspension from Reform UK in March last year, said his father had pistols taken away after the shooting; the Crown Prosecution Service previously found insufficient evidence for prosecution over alleged threats Lowe made against then Reform UK chairman Zia Yusuf. Restore Britain and Rupert Lowe have been approached for comment.

This is bad even for Rupert Lowe. Because of our gun laws we don’t have active shooter drills in schools and children don’t have to go to their friend’s funerals. MAGA ideology is utter poison Restore Britain leader describes Dunblane tragedy as 'one murder' www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Reminder that Rupert Lowe got his guns confiscated last year after allegedly threatening to shoot Zia Yusuf (you don't gotta hand it to Rupert Lowe, but fair play), and this was the trigger discipline on display when he was handing them over.

I wouldn't usually do this, but what a complete and utter hideous, grifting, objectionable, soulless, gormless, amoral, evil fucking CUNT.

Dave31

he’s said a lot of abhorrent things, but if there’s anything correct left in British politics, that should wind it up for him entirely and immediately

Emma Butterworth Music16

Anyone who downplays the horror and significance of Dunblane has had their brain well and truly rotted by far right ideology and money.

Andy Murray has carte blanche to stove this cunts head in with a tennis racquet if you ask me.

William Meikle5

There should be no place in British politics for any fucking cunt so insensitive to the mass slaughter of children.

Gareth Thomas4

Personally, I’d much rather be free of the fear of guns than free to own one. But maybe Lowe enjoys attending the funerals of schoolchildren?

Dangerous deregulation call from this ghoul. I recall Dunblane as an emotional “hug them closer” moment, like our parents had with us after Aberfan, with a widespread understanding that the changes to gun laws after Hungerford the previous decade, another 16 dead mass shooting, had fallen short.

Rupert Lowe is vile. 😡

Dr Julie Doughty2

Lowe is beyond despicable. Where was he in 1996?
