Anthrocon opened in Pittsburgh on July 1, 2026, with the mayor declaring July 1st officially "Anthrocon Day" and convention programming running through the weekend. The event features a dealers den, panels, fursuit meetups and scheduled programming across the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and nearby hotels. Organizers posted five designated headless zones: DLCC Rooms 302, 305, DLCC Hall A (Dealers), DLCC East Lobby street level, Westin 3rd Floor, and Courtyard Marriott Lobby (Saturday afternoon only). An artist announced a debut piece titled The Basilisk Hunters, an 11-by-14-inch oil with 24 karat gold leaf, and one exhibitor said they have 31 pictures in the art show. Attendees arrived throughout Thursday and Friday despite unusually hot weather in Pittsburgh, with reports of flights and arrivals, social meetups in lounges and waterfront roaming in fursuit.
