Communities across the United States marked the 250th Independence Day with fireworks, parades and local festivals while officials warned of extreme heat over the holiday weekend. In New Buffalo, Michigan, Exit One Events owner John Moultrie is staging the Red, White & BBQ Country Music Festival Friday at Lions Park and the Oh Yeah! Music Festival Saturday, each featuring local food trucks, barbecue and alcohol; the country festival begins at 10 a.m. with acts including The Dolly Parton Experience and Steel Country, and fireworks will be shot at 10:30 p.m. over New Buffalo beach. Organizers said they will run a free shuttle service and expect thousands of visitors to the lakeshore weekend. Local governments prepared for heat impacts: Loudoun County closed administrative offices July 3 and listed county facilities as cooling centers, and Montgomery County warned of extreme heat while keeping Independence Day events on with cooling options. Overseas Americans also made plans to mark July 4 at official gatherings in Germany. Municipal statements and local organizers emphasized safety measures and community programming tied to America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
