Disabled people with lifelong conditions facing unnecessary PIP reassessments
The Guardian reports that hundreds of thousands of disabled people with lifelong conditions are being forced into routine Personal Independence Payment reassessments that charities call 'pointless'. Charities say these reassessments run contrary to official guidance, waste public money and are 'significantly harming' claimants' mental health. Campaigners say the reviews force people with permanent impairments to repeatedly prove their needs, and some organisations report overturning dozens of decisions. The reassessments matter because they destabilise vulnerable people's finances and wellbeing while adding avoidable costs to the benefits system.

A study by the anti-poverty charity @z2ktrust.bsky.social has found the DWP are frequently reviewing Pip awards for people whose condition is unlikely or impossible to change, “wasting” public money and “significantly harming” the mental and physical health of claimants.
I'm autistic and suffer with severe depression and anxiety. I sent in the paperwork for my PIP reassessment in June last year. I've not slept properly for a year because of worrying whether my PIP going to be stopped whenever they get round to considering it.
My PIP review is due (within the next 12 months). I’m stressed to fk already, and I’ve been getting Enhanced Both for ten years and am medically retired. It’s a 💩show. People have no fkg idea how stressful and arbitrary it is. 🤬🤬
Constantly. Its depressing and exhausting. My CFS isn't going anywhere, if anything its getting worse 🤦♀️
I'm STILL WAITING for the results of my reassessment form over a year. I believe it is unlawful
