Apple's new Siri AI announced to run on Google Gemini models

At WWDC 2026 Apple announced that Apple Intelligence will rebuild Siri to run on Google Gemini models, integrating Gemini into a standalone Siri app and core system features. The redesigned Siri gains expanded device context; it can see the screen and camera, answer complex multi-step queries, and offers improved voice, dictation, Dynamic Island responses, and new iPhone gestures. Apple said the AI will ship with IOS 27 "Golden Gate" on iPhone 11 and newer devices and on macOS, launching in English only and not available in China because of regulatory limits. Apple framed the move as pairing Google’s large models with Apple-controlled device context and privacy controls, running heavier Gemini tasks in the cloud while processing personal data locally.

Apple didn't show much that Google Gemini can't do, but they hammered on privacy. Definitely intentional. Apple doesn't need your data to make money, but Google absolutely does. Curious to see if this difference is a massive differentiator for users.
