Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to Pyongyang on June 8 to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong UN, his first visit to North Korea in seven years. Xi and Kim held talks and public ceremonies that underscored deeper political and economic alignment and gave Kim a stage to showcase closer ties with Beijing. Kim Yo Jong declared that North Korea will never give up its status as a nuclear power, and the visit cements Beijing's support for Pyongyang while complicating U.S. and South Korean efforts to pressure North Korea.
