Severe Thunderstorm Watch 274 issued across parts of Upper Midwest
The Storm Prediction Center issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 274 for central and northern Wisconsin, southern Upper Michigan and much of Minnesota, in effect until 11:00 PM CDT Friday. National Weather Service offices including Twin Cities/Chanhassen and Duluth issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings for counties such as Chippewa, Rusk, Pope, Stearns and Swift, reporting radar-indicated hail near 1.00 inch, 60 mph gusts and storm motion of 25 to 30 mph. SPC mesoscale discussion 991 identified the primary hazards as hail of 1.00 to 1.75 inches and wind gusts of 55 to 70 mph, and noted a small tornado threat where storms ingest local outflow boundaries. Residents and travelers across the Twin Cities metro, southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin should expect damaging hail and 60-plus mph gusts into the evening and seek shelter for any severe thunderstorm warnings.
