Chemical tank implosion at Longview paper mill kills multiple, injures 10
A tank holding white liquor imploded Tuesday at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging facility in Longview, Washington, killing multiple people and leaving others unaccounted for. Emergency crews transported at least 10 injured workers to area hospitals, with some patients treated for chemical burns, and authorities told residents to avoid the site while searches continue. Officials said there is no immediate threat to the wider public, but the blast raises urgent questions about chemical storage practices at pulp and paper plants and will likely trigger formal safety and regulatory probes.
I've been a lot of different places in my life and I can honestly say Kelso-Longview, WA might be the most existentially depressing, an impression a chemical tank explosion with mass casualties probably isn't going to change much for the better
Actually it's Phnom Penh but having copious signs of genocide and torture everywhere around you kind of puts Phnom Penh in a different category
Every summer my family goes and has a beer at the tavern my grandfather opened in the 60s near Clatskanie. Last year I stopped for gas in Longview just before the bridge and there was a lady wandering aimlessly in the parking screaming ‘fuck you’ at passing cars. Felt about right.
I don’t think I’ve ever made it down there, but we usually drive through Aberdeen and Hoquiam on our way to the coast, and that’s depressing enough for me.
