Ted Cruz says 'Trump Accounts' could be personal Social Security accounts
Sen. Ted Cruz said at a public GOP conference that the "Trump Accounts" created in the 2025 Republican budget law could function as personal Social Security accounts. Cruz said the accounts would revive privatization efforts abandoned under President George W. Bush and called that plan the system's "dirty little secret." Advocacy group Social Security Works and other critics say converting payroll-tax funded benefits into individual accounts would shift retirement security onto market performance, risk reducing guaranteed monthly benefits and effectively privatizing Social Security.
