President Trump signed off on a plan to fire Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary, the Wall Street Journal reports. The decision follows repeated clashes between Makary and the administration over vaping regulation, abortion pill access, vaccine policy, and disputes over drug approvals. Makary is a practicing physician WHO led the FDA through several high-profile, contentious policy decisions and has not been publicly replaced. Removing Makary would shift control of FDA priorities on drug and vaccine approvals and signal increased White House influence over the agency's regulatory direction.
