Alabama House Speaker calls on Supreme Court to overturn 14th Amendment
Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter urged the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Fourteenth Amendment to remove legal obstacles blocking Alabama's current legislative redistricting map. Ledbetter argued that overturning the Amendment would strip the equal-protection and due-process limits courts have relied on to alter or block the map. A federal court previously found Alabama’s legislative redistricting unlawfully discriminated, prompting litigation and remedial orders that the state seeks to evade. If the Court acted, it would erase a foundational source of federal civil-rights protections and clear the way for state maps courts now reject.
The Speaker of the House in Alabama calls on the courts to “overturn the 14th Amendment.” This is the same legislative body, a court found engaged in intentional racial discrimination in drawing voting maps in the Milligan case. x.com/austinpratt_...
Was the Speaker wearing his white robe and hood when he called for the 14th Amendment to be repealed?
So they want the constitution declared unconstitutional? That tracks
"Certainly hope the Supreme Court will overturn Amendment 14." -Republican Speaker of the House of Alabama, Nathaniel Ledbetter. 14A grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the US and guarantees all citizens "equal protection of the laws" and "due process".
When ICE stops an innocent brown person and beats the crap out of them, it is called a Kavanaugh stop, in honor of Justice Blackout. What's a good term to honor the Chief Justice Notional Ump for the gerrymandering mess he has unleashed?
The clan slithered out from underneath the rocks because Trump gave them the ok to come out. America has always been a racist country. Started when they came over on the Mayflower and stole indigenous lands.
They are on a roll. Once they get done rolling and they ended up on the other side, it’s gonna bite them in the ass.
Then after that they'll be coming for the 19th amendment.
Alabama .. we're worse than Florida
They’re not even trying to hide the racism anymore.
It feels like things are falling apart with increasing speed.
So a court can declare a constitutional amendment unconstitutional? This is traitor speak
They’ve been calling for it since it was passed
Was watching Gone With the Wind the other day and Rhett was saying that the North will win the war as they have factories, ships, ports, and what does the south have? Cotton, slaves, and arrogance. The biggest thorn in America's side since the beginning is the Confederacy.
We really shouldn’t be giving Samuel Alito or John Roberts any ideas here.
The Confederate holdovers in the #GOP have taken the mask off. What will the placeholders, in the Dem Caucus leadership do?
Next: "Southers GOP call on courts to overturn Lee's surrender at Appomattox"
It was precisely because of this attitude in Alabama and elsewhere that the 14th Amevndment was added to our Constitution. We will not rescind it.
We have actually reached the tipping point. Wake up America we are here!
Will they just fucking secede already?
The republican party is basically what you'd get if you crossed the Klan with the Mafia at this point.
I read a book once called "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August" that opens with a character telling another that the end of the world is speeding up, and they don't know how to stop it.* This feels a lot like that. Nothing seems to be stopping the slide. *by Claire North
*The Speaker of the House in Alabama (R)
Trump violated section three and his oath of office it instant he took the oath of office a second time. He could have petitioned to have the disability removed but did not. The party promoted a candidate ineligible -- wire fraud & addition insurrection constitution.congress.gov/constitution...
These fucking racist pieces of shit Confederate assholes.
The southern racists are coming out of the closet
FFS and Roberts would probably do it
What’s his name?? Always identify them. His name is Nathaniel Ledbetter. He’s the grand wizard
I mean, I’m no lawyer, but can a court invalidate an entire amendment? Wouldn’t it have to be repealed via another amendment?
GEEZUSCRIPESALMIGHTY! I’m so sick of these Neanderthals dragging us all backwards!!
I swear these MAGA RepubliKKKans ARE FULL OF SUCH HATE.
Time to divide into two nations.
Yep. Asking the SCROTUS Gang of Six to rule that the Constitution is unconstitutional. That’s exactly what they’re doing: ripping up the Constitution, bringing back segregation & destroying every last vestige of decency and Western Civilization. The Nazi Christian Republicans want to destroy it all.
This has always been the plan it pisses me off when I see those saying there's infighting when the other side has been planning the entire time and citizens United was able to make everyone's agenda match the Powell memo, completing fruition there are many like synema, manchin that aide that too.
The South never stopped fighting the civil war. There is no new South. Time is past due for accountability.
I think a lot of people from other countries who vote in our elections don’t understand US history. They don’t realize brown/black people were openly discriminated against just 50 to 60 years ago. Violence against brown/black was common place, including late night hangings. Research KKK.
Coming soon: SCOTUS rules that the Constitution is unconstitutional. Except the 2nd Amendment (of course).
If a Democrat had said we should eliminate one of the constitutional amendments, Trump and Republicans would accuse them of treason and call for them to be arrested.
We need to rid ourselves of the monstrous Confederacy once and for all. Break up the country. Enough of having that evil white supremacist appendage attached to America holding the majority of us back.
Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter wants SCOTUS to overturn the 14th amendment. None of this protecting equal rights and due process for ALL citizens stuff for these good ol' Southern boys. They're determined that the Confederacy will rise again. www.rawstory.com/fourteenth-a...
It was all there in project 2025 but people still voted for this.
We beat them once and we will beat them again. This is not over by a longshot.
If a Democrat said something like this, Republicans would be accusing them of treason and calling for them to be arrested.
They're going for all the marbles. They're going to try and repeal the entire 20th century. That includes the 19th and finish dismantling FDRs New Deal.
What must it take, psychically, to have hated to this degree for nearly 200 yrs. Hatred is learned. Racism is learned. Clearly the overwhelming mjty of the elected officials in the South, despite saying they are Christian, have never learned what love is. That love/care are verbs.
Not surprised in the least
I want my state, WA, to secede, along with OR & CA. I don’t want to live in Gilead. Even if our 3 states maintain norms and multiplural government that preserves rights for all citizens, living in federation with states that don’t. Plus they want to make these policies national. Hell no. #Fascists
Burning the confederate flag at every possible opportunity.
Nobody hates the constitution more than right wingers
The confederacy has risen; that's who is ruling America (or, pulling us around by our law-abiding attitudes). The only thing left is to replace the flag.
Ledbetter wants SCOTUS to remove or neutralize the 14th Amendment/Voting Rights legal obstacle to Alabama’s preferred congressional map. Can SCOTUS erase the 14th Amendment? No. Can SCOTUS weaken or reshape how it protects people in practice? Yes.
It appears the biggest mistake of the North after the Civil War was that they didn't put the traitorous rebels into a couple of states and throw them out of the United States.
They're high on their own racist supply on striking amendments but it is another distraction to have to relitigate this.
The Civil War has never truly ended. It went cold for a time, but it did not completely end. Listen to the 🍊💩🤡 speak, when he says “they almost destroyed our country”. He’s talking about WHITE AMERIKKKA.
Let’s just hope the SC remembers their role is to determine whether laws are Constitutional and not to rewrite it, bc this guys surely doesn’t know that.
It's time to end the civil war, correctly and permanently.
That would be grounds for impeachment.
I’m not sure what’s worse- the fact that he wants to or the fact that he’s a lawmaker that doesn’t know SCOTUS can’t overturn constitutional amendments.
Was only a matter of time for them to (openly) start pushing MSGA.....🤬
