U.S. strikes two Iran-flagged oil tankers in Gulf of Oman

newsMay 8, 202640354

U.S. forces struck and disabled two empty Iranian-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, Central Command said. CENTCOM released video showing the vessels being disabled after the tankers attempted to sail into an Iranian port in violation of an ongoing U.S. blockade. The strikes followed overnight exchanges of fire in the Strait of Hormuz, and the United Arab Emirates reported another Iranian missile and drone attack that day. The operation heightens tensions in a key oil transit corridor and complicates efforts to secure shipping and deter further Iranian attempts to move sanctioned oil.
