Russia scales down Victory Day parade, omits tanks as Moscow faces drone attacks
Russia will stage its May 9 Victory Day parade on Red Square without tanks for the first time in nearly two decades, featuring only marching troops. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Ukrainian forces launched dozens of drones toward the capital overnight on May 8, prompting heightened security measures. The Kremlin said it did not invite foreign leaders to the celebrations, though several foreign guests still plan to attend. The omission of heavy armor and the drone attacks constrain Russia's traditional show of force and raise fresh security concerns for ceremonies in Moscow.
⚡️Ukraine reportedly launches dozens of drones at Moscow ahead of Victory Day Parade.
Save some for the parade.
Good. Pour it on. No justice, no peace.
The Russians are always trying to tie the Soviet victory that included all the Soviet states as only a victory for Russia. 😂 Without Soviet Ukraine, the Russians would have lost WW II. 🤔
Hope they keep hunting those valuable military targets while the defences are shifted to Moscow. Putin doesn't deserve a ceasefire after breaking 25 agreements since the war started.
Just sent out this post. The maneuvering around the Moscow "victory" day parade set for tomorrow reveals a great deal about the state of the war. Putin is desperate to protect himself, but the Ukrainians have maneuvered him into a trap. They may take advantage. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
I will never get over the fucking gall it takes to declare a unilateral ceasefire in a war they started and are continuing by choice because they don’t want the Ukrainians to fight back when it’s inconvenient for Moscow. It’s like trying to suspend a poker game but only when you have a bad hand…
I'd be calling in sick if I were a worker at a Russian oil processing plant.
They’ve pulled so much extra defense into Moscow, surely there are some exciting targets elsewhere that have been left vulnerable 👀
You remember Anwar as Sadat? Putin does!
An attack at the parade itself might be fatal for Putin's power, even if he uses a body double (which I do expect he will use). It would show his weakness and embolden his enemies. Likely it will be defended into the extreme and these defenses must come from somewhere else, weakening that position.
Do you think the Ukrainians would actually target Putin? I know Russians have tried to kill Zelensky several times, but as the reviewing stand will have other (mostly odious)"VIPs", surely an attack would be too risky? However a hit on the parade assembly area is perfectly legitimate
I hope May 9th becomes a holiday for Ukraine and all of its supporters! 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
I'm surprised JD Vance is not going to be there
I do hope they have been stocking up on Flamingo's for this day. Not to attack Moscow, but the numerous targets now not defended by air defence. Would the 9th not be appropriate for another attempt on the Kerch bridge?
1/6 Missile strikes and drone attacks hit industrial zones in Rostov, Perm, and Yaroslavl, disrupting operations. Source: Mediazona. Amidst rising tensions, smoke billows from oil refineries, raising alarms about safety and industrial resilience across southern Russia.
2/6 Governor Yuri Slyusar reported a missile strike on the Southeast industrial zone near Rostov-on-Don, leading to warehouse fires and structural damage. The area hosts factories like "Empils" and a defense firm, Radar.
Russians feeling the consequences of their actions. Good 👍
