Pussy Riot and FEMEN storm Russia’s pavilion at Venice Biennale
Pussy Riot and Ukraine's FEMEN swarmed the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, releasing pink, blue and yellow smoke and forcing the pavilion to briefly close. Protesters shouted "Curated by Putin, dead bodies included" and called the pavilion a site of violence, directly contesting Russia's inclusion in the exhibition. The action underscores broader disputes over whether international art events should host representatives of states involved in active conflicts, turning the Biennale into a contested political as well as cultural space.
From Eurovision to the Venice Biennale, culture contests are being overshadowed by politics
culture and politics are intertwined you prats.
I guess you haven't noticed how much culture is being decimated by politics? How many writers and artists have been killed, or are losing their incomes, from political decisions?
Eurovision has always been political.
Holy... What happened to the Guardian? What's next? In defense of Victor Orban?
Art reflects society, makes observations & statements about our reality, our lives, our emotions. Both good & bad, & everywhere in between. And politics are a huge part of our lives, especially when they're broken & the govt is violating its own contracts with the population it governs. Needs fixed.
It's such a shame about Eurovision and Biennale for being so spineless and let Israel and Russia participate.
