Midlands103 recorded 2,400 speeding detections and more than 100 drink-drive arrests over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend across counties including Laois, Offaly and Westmeath. Gardaí conducted the enforcement operations during a year that has already seen 57 road deaths in Ireland. The weekend totals underscore continuing road safety problems and reinforce the need for drivers to slow down and avoid drinking before driving.
