Humpback whale 'Timmy' released into North Sea

natureMay 2, 202625275

A humpback whale nicknamed Timmy was loaded onto a barge in Germany and released into the North Sea off Denmark after weeks of rescue efforts. Timmy had been found beached in shallow water along the German coast and struggled to regain strength before transport. Veterinary teams and maritime crews stabilized the juvenile, moved it by barge and deployed it at designated Danish release coordinates. The cross-border operation gives Timmy a chance to reintegrate with wild humpback populations and shows regional capacity for large-mammal rescue efforts.
