Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warned Phuket residents that persistent heavy rain has created risks of flash floods, landslides and mudslides in low-lying areas, near waterways and hillsides, with 336,472 households already affected in broader areas, the DDPM said. In northern Arizona, Hopi leaders declared a state of emergency after heavy rainfall and widespread flooding damaged bridges, roads, homes and utilities across multiple Hopi villages and triggered mudslides and rockslides, and the village of Lower Moenkopi issued its own emergency flooding declaration. The Navajo Nation is also dealing with torrential downpours that forced early school dismissals, closures and evacuations; Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren previously approved an emergency declaration in September that remains in effect to support response and recovery. Forecasts for other regions include daily heavy rain and a severe thunderstorms risk in Queensland this week, with authorities warning of continued flooding threats. Emergency measures in the U.S. include access to emergency funds for affected chapters, coordination by the Navajo Department of Transportation with the Federal Highway Administration for damaged roads, and school schedule changes and remote learning where conditions forced closures.
