Timothy “Timmy” Teepell’s firm Breakthrough LLC received a $250,000 payment from the 501(c)(4) America Next on 29 September to fund canvassing and influencer marketing opposing Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, the Guardian reports. The payment was filed with the Federal Election Commission and is the only independent expenditure America Next has reported since 2015. Timmy Teepell is a longtime strategist for Senator Josh Hawley and former governor Bobby Jindal; Hawley’s campaign committee has also paid Breakthrough. The man who heckled El-Sayed at a town hall, identified as Thomas “Tommy” Teepell, is Timmy Teepell’s son and earlier served as a Josh Hawley aide, but filings show no payment to Thomas Teepell from Breakthrough or America Next. America Next shares a Baton Rouge office suite with Breakthrough and lists $5,066,000 in contributions for the year to July 2024; its donors include a $500,000 grant from American Action Network and $250,000 from Secure Florida’s Future in 2022. The Guardian also reported that on 1 October someone acting for America Next offered University of Michigan students $200 to boo and question El-Sayed at a Flint town hall. The filings and family ties underline America Next’s effort to manufacture apparent organic opposition to El-Sayed while its donor base and connections remain undisclosed.
