Michigan Senate debate turns combative between Mike Rogers and Abdul El‑Sayed

politicsOct 9, 2026364,125

In Grand Rapids Thursday, Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed traded barbs in the first debate of Michigan’s open U.S. Senate race, clashing over gas prices, the war in Iran, tariffs and each other’s family and real estate. El-Sayed repeatedly called Rogers “weak,” “cowardly” and “bought off,” accusing him of shifting positions to please Trump allies, while Rogers labeled El-Sayed a “con man” who would raise taxes to pay for promises such as Medicare for All. The two sparred over a proposed pause to the federal gas tax, with both supporting a pause but disagreeing about whether the Iran war is to blame; Rogers said he now wants the war to end swiftly. Tariffs with Canada also drew sharp exchanges, and Rogers said he had contacted the White House and commerce officials to try to resolve duties affecting Michigan exporters. The debate, hosted by WOOD of Grand Rapids and NewsNation and moderated by Rick Albin, grew so heated Albin asked the candidates to rein in their attacks. Michigan’s open seat, with Sen. Gary Peters not running for re-election, makes the contest one of the most closely watched races that could influence control of the Senate.

The discourse on antisemitism in the country is such that Mike Rogers can simultaneously attack Abdul El-Sayed *as* antisemitic, as a scary foreign Muslim critic of Israel, and also *with* antisemitism, as a tool of the foreign-born Jewish puppeteer.

"LEAKED: Footage of Abdul El-Sayed fundraising last night in the California home of the far-left Soros family.

Abdul’s education was paid for by the Soros family and NOW they are funding his campaign to make him a U.S. Senator

The Soros family is funding Abdul because he will carry out their agenda of:

➡️ defunding the police
➡️ emptying prisons, and letting violent criminals & sex offenders back onto the streets
➡️ gender transition surgeries for minors
➡️ allowing illegals to vote in American elections

Abdul is too extreme for Michigan."

If you ever do something really fun and boil your head in the writings of conspiracy theorists (don’t) this is a strategy you can find them employing as far back as the good ol’ days of peak John Birch Society Foundational texts like Gary Allen’s “None Dare Call It Conspiracy” are built on it

Christian Zionism makes a LOT more sense when you look at it as a tool of ethnically cleansing Jews from North America and Europe, as well as ethnically cleaning Palestinians.

The recursive structure is evident in how someone can be accused of being antisemitic through the use of antisemitic tropes. The notion that scary Muslim people are puppets of Jews motivated the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter.

Q. McLamore7

This, in essence, is the purpose of said discourse in a nutshell: to gentiles, Jews are a rhetorical advice, rather than people. They do whatever the narrative needs them to do, when it is convenient for them to do so. This unfortunately knows no party.

Steven Goldman5

This has always been the weird inconsistentcy of antisemitism. Jews are simultaneously inferior subhumans AND so sneaky and clever that they secretly control everything.

Truly nothing g sums this shit up better. Antisemitism: a Muslim American doctor saying sending a foreign government the means to enact genocide is in fact bad and something we shouldn’t do Not antisemitism: “this Jew is the shadow puppet master controlling everything bad in the world”

btw, this is not in any way unique to the right. I see Blue MAGA and tankies on here daily engaging in exactly the same sorts of arguments

Shoddy WaPo write-up of El-Sayed/Rogers debate by Erin Cox. El-Sayed never said a word about Rogers's mom, so "exchanging words about each other’s mothers" is both-sides baloney. Then she repeats Rogers's lies about El-Sayed and just says El-Sayed denies them. wapo.st/4ibaMld
