HBO has given a series order to Crazy Rich Asians, commissioning an eight-episode, one-hour original drama that serves as a follow-up to the 2018 film. Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young, with Ronny Chieng returning as Eddie Cheng and Michelle Yeoh back as Young family matriarch Eleanor. Adele Lim is leading the project as showrunner and Jon M. Chu is attached as an executive producer. The series reunites key members of the film’s creative team to expand Kevin Kwan’s storyworld on television. HBO’s order moves the franchise from a single blockbuster film into a serialized format with an initial eight-episode season.
