Reform MP Sarah Pochin buys £800,000 second home after raising concerns about issue

Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin completed the purchase of a Grade II listed property on the southern coast of Anglesey for £800,000 two days after she submitted a written question on 15 June to housing minister Matthew Pennycook about the impact of second‑home ownership on coastal and rural communities. Pennycook replied that “excessive concentrations of short‑term lets and second homes impact on the availability and affordability of homes for local residents to buy and rent, as well as local services.” Land Registry records show the purchase was made jointly with Pochin’s husband, Jonathan, and the couple retain another home in Cheshire. Pochin and her husband have submitted plans to Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn for changes to the Anglesey property. Anglesey recorded 2,635 furnished homes that were not an individual’s sole or main residence as of March 2026, and the local authority now applies a 100% council tax premium on second homes. Robin Wyn Williams, deputy leader of Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn, warned that concentrations of second homes can reduce school rolls and local services and weaken community identity. Pochin became Reform UK’s first female MP after winning the Runcorn and Helsby by‑election in May 2025 and previously served as a Conservative mayor and Cheshire East councillor before joining Reform.
