Trump launches 'Super Intelligence Force', names Jay Clayton head

techOct 5, 202621709

President Trump on Sunday unveiled a White House "Super Intelligence Force" to coordinate federal engagement on artificial intelligence and named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to lead it. Trump wrote on Truth Social that the Super Intelligence Force will "ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence" and will coordinate with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and "super intelligence companies." Clayton was confirmed earlier this year as Director of National Intelligence and previously served as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York and as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Trump prefers the term "super intelligence" to "artificial intelligence" and this announcement follows meetings this week in which he met AI executives and said several companies signed a voluntary accord for internal and external reviews of their work. The White House also launched a revamped America.gov site this week that it says is sourced via artificial intelligence from official government sources. It remains unclear how Clayton's appointment will change AI policy given that Congress has not enacted broad federal AI regulation and existing efforts are limited to some state measures such as California's transparency rules.
