Tony Romo parts ways with CBS Sports after OWI arrest
Tony Romo drove drunk. He doesn't deny it. In fact he plead no contest and has taken ownership of his actions and publicly acknowledged his struggles with pain medication and now alcohol. For that he got canned by CBS while the NFL suspends players ~4-6 games for domestic violence. The NFL sucks
It’s not a 1:1 comparable and I get there is a CBA that governs things but holy shit we don’t have to be fans of or support an organization that doesn’t care about its employees violence.
Exactly. Corporate stigmatizing of addiction takes precedence over keeping women safe from predators I guess 🤷 🙄
There is almost never any support for addicts. People pretend they understand it’s a brain disease but they don’t. They still view it as a moral failure. Driving impaired deserves serious consequences but they could have suspended him while he sought treatment but the nfl only cares about money.
And sexual assaulters get to be QB's
CBS has a very weird moral compass don’t they? Alcoholism is a disease Trump is mid a crime spree conducted by a man found guilty of rape by a judge & convicted of 34 crimes. Seemingly Taking money for pardons & crypto CBS chose the trump why?
Driving when drunk is attempted manslaughter...
the nfl and cbs are separate entities. sounds like cbs wanted to not pay that man anymore.
Andrew's point about the NFL and DV charges is 100% correct. But Romo wasn't fired for drunk driving. He was fired because he was increasingly bad at his job and the charges gave CBS the opportunity to get out from under his contract years early. If he was still good, he'd still be employed.
Gotta be proud of Romo, being honest, owning his problems, not putting out BS and complaining. Yup, he does have some problems, but that level of ownership goes a long way to paving the road back to recovery and a solid life and job. IMO.
Not completely surprising when one considers that Colin Kaepernick got blacklisted, and Deshaun Watson did not.
Tony Romo is out at CBS over his DUI. Yet another drive resulting in a game-losing fumble.
CBS has standards, DWI you’re out. Support a rapist President, you’re the new reporter on 60 Minutes.
Still can’t understand in this day and age why these people with plenty of money don’t just pay for a driver or Uber like the rest of us
Someone, anyone, please find and report something on Chris Collinsworth.
When The Onion gets to define your legacy. theonion.com/tony-romo-re...
I think Charlotte just hammered Romo harder than any NFC East defense ever did.
😱 Quite the expensive DUI!
The thing is … driving has never been such an enjoyable activity that i would ever do it inebriated I don’t wanna do it sober… why would i do it drunk
Why is it that some people break the law and are cancelled, and others who commit violent/sexual crimes aren't? Romo was one of the interesting and insightful commentators, too.
So...like...it's bad that Tony Romo got a DUI, but compared to the actions & statements of certain other broadcasters (including statements made on the air), it's pretty odd that he's getting forced out over it
Like, if I were the NFL or a major TV network, I'd find the exchange between Kirk Herbstreit & Al Michaels last night to be far worse to the league &/or network.
I mean, there’s been rumors about Romo being hammered on the job for years now, I think the DUI might just be the publicly available excuse for already strained private issues.
It just shows that genuinely sucking as a broadcast professional matters more to the powers that be than moral failings. They didn't want to keep paying him for what they were getting, were handed an excuse.
Just about the money, they wanted out of his deal.
Farewell to Tony Romo, who was revolutionary until he was aggravating.
damn they dropped him quick
NEW: Tony Romo is out as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports following his July DUI arrest, the network says.
