Anthropic consulted religious scholars while training Claude’s moral reasoning
1. selling AI is profitable - when someone pays anthropic for claude to do something, anthropic makes money 2. people will stop paying anthropic for claude to do stuff if claude stops being top of the line 3. keeping claude top of the line means spending a ton of money developing the next version
4. the amount of money being made from selling AI may not be enough to cover the amount of money it takes to keep developing the next version of AI if the cost/pace of development doesn't slow down 5. the cost of development shows no sign of slowing down
Like how the second wonder drug pill costs $2 to make, the first cost $100 million. But instead of having the chance to sell 50 million pills at $4/each, someone else was comes out with a better pill every week. Theoretically the product can pay for itself, but not if people stop using it too early.
Is 1 true? They claim they're profitable if you don't count revenue sharing with the likes of AWS and Azure, but that's how they pay for a lot of their compute costs so they may not actually be profitable
From what I understand, no, selling AI isn't profitable. Anthropic has to subsidize it's users because compute is so expensive (and also not profitable for the compute vendors) an enormous amount, so they make less money the more people use their model.
“For months, Anthropic has been hosting private meetings like this one, shuttling in dozens of religious scholars from across the world, papering them with nondisclosure agreements and demanding that key aspects of many conversations remain confidential.“ www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...
I often try to explain to my kids that the world wasn't always this fkn stupid
I bet there were exactly zero women clergy Not only because of the misogyny among AI enthusiasts but because women clergy would be too ethical to agree to such a meeting in the first place
Imagine talking to religious leaders if you are trying to learn about morality…turning to the biggest grifters on the planet. The real reason they are hosting religious “scholars” is to teach the LLMs more about the art of the grift. Nobody can teach them better. Also, hush hush, shhhhhhh 🤫
Wheeeee doggies. Mr. Olah, *a former evangelical*… why couldn’t he have just joined TEC like so many others? Found the Consciousness he’s seeking there? (Sorry)
