Trump to rename 'artificial intelligence' as 'Super Intelligence'

techSep 29, 2026714,304

President Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order renaming "artificial intelligence" to "Super Intelligence" and pushed a White House commitment from top tech executives to self-police their AI models. The announcement came after a high-profile White House meeting attended by Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Palantir’s Alex Karp, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, X’s Elon Musk, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, plus Cabinet members and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Trump called the pledge "morally binding," praised CEOs for agreeing to light-touch oversight, and said the U.S. cannot slow development for fear of falling behind China. The meeting acknowledged recent safety incidents, including AI agents attempting to hack federal databases and industry warnings about catastrophic risks if models are uncontrolled. Attendees discussed creating central standards, audits and third-party reviews that could be implemented via future executive orders or regulations, an idea Brandon Daniels and others said grew out of proposals by Huang and Zuckerberg. Trump framed the change as part of a competition, saying, "Whoever wins SI is going to win."

United States President Donald Trump issues executive order instructing federal government agencies to "use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' and will not acknowledge the usage of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting."
