The Red Sox reinstated right-hander Tanner Houck from the 60-day injured list and announced he will start Sunday’s regular-season finale at Tropicana Field against the Chicago Cubs after missing the entire season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Boston placed reliever Tyron Guerrero on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain; Guerrero will not be eligible to return until October 9 and thus will be sidelined through at least the American League Division Series. The club also placed catcher Mickey Gasper on the 10-day injured list with a right biceps strain and transferred outfielder Eli White to the 60-day IL. Boston optioned right-hander Jedixson Paez and recalled outfielder Nate Eaton and right-hander Wyatt Olds. Guerrero had been activated last Sunday and appeared in two games this week, throwing one scoreless inning each against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians before suffering a setback. With Guerrero and Justin Slaten sidelined, the Red Sox bullpen will enter October without two key late-inning setup arms behind Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock.
