South Africa observed Heritage Day with traditional braais, cultural tributes and public messages celebrating the nation’s stories, languages and communities. Homeward Connect urged unity, saying differences can connect people and quoting Psalm 37:23, wishing gratitude for the past and purpose for the future. Sporting group gsport used Heritage Day to honour 21 Hall of Fame pioneers, naming Penny Heyns from 2006 and Portia Modise from 2026 among the inductees. Provincial authorities in Gauteng reminded the public to prioritise safety during celebrations. Language and heritage projects such as the WMZA Translation Challenge were highlighted as ways to keep indigenous languages alive in the digital age.
