A New York judge on Wednesday sentenced Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The sentence follows a retrial after New York’s highest court overturned Weinstein’s 2020 convictions and after two mistrials; a second jury found him guilty at the retrial last year. Haley told the court the assault had a "devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away." Weinstein told Judge Curtis Farber, "I am not a perfect person," and offered an apology. The sentencing closes the New York chapter of a nine-year legal saga that helped ignite the #MeToo movement. Weinstein is expected to appeal the conviction and sentence.
