Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, two 2nm mobile platforms featuring 64-bit Oryon CPU cores clocked up to 5.0 GHz and new Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs. Both SoCs use a two-Prime, six-Performance core configuration with Prime cores up to 5.0 GHz and Performance cores up to 4.0 GHz, include 16 MB of Oryon FlexCache, and support up to 24 GB LPDDR5X/6 RAM at up to 5,300 MHz plus UFS 5.0 storage. Qualcomm claims the Extreme model delivers a 13% CPU performance boost, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 44% higher GPU performance, 35% improved NPU performance and 33% better AI performance per watt versus the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the standard Gen 6 posts 10% CPU, 37% CPU power efficiency, 35% GPU and 14% NPU gains and 20% AI performance-per-watt improvement versus Gen 5. The Extreme Gen 6 increases shared Hexagon NPU memory by 50% over the prior generation and enables stronger on-device AI; early benchmark tests show the Extreme variant scoring strongly and running close to the Apple A20 Pro. Video capabilities advance as well: the Extreme supports 8K recording at 60 fps and 4K slow motion at 240 fps, while the standard Gen 6 supports 8K at 30 fps and 4K slow motion at 120 fps. Xiaomi’s 18 Pro lineup will be the first phones to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, and Motorola confirmed the Signature 27 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6; OnePlus confirmed it will use the Extreme version.
